I have been invited to teach various computer classes at Robinson Reserve Neighbourhood House, and am slowly putting together a curriculum for the classes. Given the size and of the classes, the needs of the students, a lot of flexibility is required within the curriculum, and is more of a guideline to what could be rather than what will be.
Web Design
This is the main thing I was invited for. A broad reaching class to develop a technical understanding and application. We will skim over everything, and make a few static web pages. Writing web code by hand, but no logic/database programming. Well, not if you don’t want to.
Seniors Computers
This class will start next term. My grandfather taught himself how to make and print Christmas cards, look up antique clocks and gramaphones on ebay, send emails with pictures, be offended by grandchildren on facebook, type out a huge family history with genograms. People of any age can come, but we won’t be doing any office skills related learning. Just the fun stuff.
Computers 1
A beginners class – turning it on, a bit of typing, a bit of searching the web, copying files, deleting files… conquering fears, discussing unknowns. You don’t need excuses, this won’t hurt a bit.
Computers 2/3
This is a real mixed bag at the moment. I am currently showing the students Publisher, Access and Excel at the same time, and everyone is doing something different.
ACFE Requirements:
In order for RRNH to receive money from ACFE, an assement of the tutor, the material, and whether learning goals were met or not needs to be carried out. Further more, a “workbook” which records learning activities for each student needs to be kept. At the least, I imagine that this will be a Word file with a screen capture and a few lines about each activity.
